Western bluebird relocation photos

The western bluebird disappeared from Vancouver Island almost 20 years ago—likely the victim of habitat and prey loss and competition with exotic species, among other factors. But a dedicated group of conservationists is working hard on a multi-year project to re-establish the resplendent bird in the Cowichan Valley. Steve Ogle of Nelson joined biologists in the field on a recent translocation effort. His article “Bringing back the bluebirds” and photographs appear in the Spring 2014 issue of British Columbia Magazine. Enjoy more of Ogle’s images in this bonus gallery.
