A short ferry ride from Vancouver or Victoria will bring you to Galiano Island. And although it’s not a large island, there is plenty to do on your visit here, such as dining at award-winning restaurants, visiting the market, spending the afternoon at a spa or art gallery, going hiking or bringing your kayak out to the ocean for a paddle.
If you do decide to bring your kayak for the trip, you’re in for a surprise – the shores of Galiano Island are home to sandstone sea caves, which have been carved out by the water. One popular sea cave, which is large enough for a person to fit in, is situated along Retreat Cove. You can continue exploring the shoreline of Galiano Island and find more sea caves along the way, as well as patterns and shapes that have been cut into the sandstone by the waves. Kayaking is a great way to explore the island and you’ll see plenty of wildlife along the way.
