Cat-skiing has been around for over 30 years, utilizing ski hill grooming machines to shuttle ski and snowboard guests into the backcountry. A ski group will consist of a lead guide, a tailguide, the cat driver and usually 12 guests. Ski lodges require a network of snow roads that can be used all winter long, and this gives guests prime access to some of the best powder on the mountain. Guests are dropped off at the top of the run and then the cat will head back down the mountain, and meet the skiers at the bottom. Then you’re off to your next location.
As technology has been improving, cat-skiing rivals heli-skiing in terms of the quality and quantity of skiing you can experience. Cat-skiing is available in two varieties: day skiing and remote, multi-day ventures.
