In our Summer 2008 issue we celebrate the last 150 years of life in British Columbia with an evocative 18-page collection of archival images. “Our history in pictures” spans 1858 to 2008—from the mad stampede of 30,000 prospectors into what was then New Caledonia to scour the Fraser River for ore, to the present day, as gold fever builds again in anticipation of the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in B.C. Together, these historical images reveal a spirit of tenacity and resourcefulness among British Columbians that is still evident today. Here is a sampling of images from the essay, courtesy of the Royal BC Museum, BC Archives.
